negative musical abilities
Well we made it home Saturday from our world wind tour. Jen and I both didn’t realize this until later, but this was the longest vacation we’ve had ever. The longest we’ve been away from home was about 4 days, but 7 day is like a whole new world. It was great seeing family and taking a break, but it was also nice to return home.
First stop was Florida and it was great. We were able to see my family, even was able to get together with some of my former co-workers for lunch, and of course I had to go to the beach. We were there until Wednesday and then we headed to Ohio. Jen was finally able to meet my grandmother, plus all of our extended family. The last time I saw her was somewhere in the range of 2000 – 2001 and it was winter is what we have concluded. We spent much of the time catching up with my grandma and hearing old stories of her singing days, which I loved hearing about. Yes singing days and I’m not talking about hairbrush in front of a mirror singing days. There was once a group called The Chordettes (Mr Sandman, Lollipop, Never on a Sunday) and she was ¼ of the group. Which by the way, I have learned that there are a lot of people with musical and singing abilities in my family and I missed every one of them, I actually have negative musical abilities. OH yea negative I actually throw people off. What in the world was I doing when this was being passed down? Anyways, Jen and I sat around looking at pictures and hearing stories of people she has met, her time on the Arthur Godfrey show, and stories about my dad.
One of the early photo’s of the Chordettes. Beautiful isn’t it.
By the way Dad, what’s this I hear about you and The Prince of Aruba and something about a meeting between your head and a tray?
I totally forgot to post this up. A few pictures from Ohio and Florida.
Away on Holiday
Vacations …what are those? If you’re English I believe its called holiday which I like better than vacation. Anyways it’s been almost two years since Jen and I have gone away just us on a vacation of any sort. So a couple weeks ago I decided that this week we would go up to the mountains for the weekend and leave everything behind.
Saturday we went hiking up to the Bat Cave which is located in, I kid you not, Bat Cave, North Carolina. The hike started off about 10 and it was a little over a half a mile hike up to the cave and during the hike the guides pointed out different plants and trees and things to not touch or eat. As for the Bat Cave itself don’t be fooled by the name there were no bats, well there are bats, but you don’t see any because they are far within the cave.
Saturday night we went over to Asheville for dinner which was about 30 minutes away from where we were staying and it’s pretty much a hippie town. Nothing against hippies I just felt like I should have had a long beard and hemp pants or something. Jen and I both didn’t feel like we fitted in so ate and left. It was nice town, just odd for us. Sunday morning we got up and headed over to hike Chimney Rock. Before we left for Chimney Rock we had breakfast at a place called Fireside Restaurant & Pancake. The name is a bit odd at first, but they had the best pancakes I have ever had. If you ever in the area of Hendersonville, NC you gotta stop in a try them. So we headed off to Chimney Rock and started our hike about 10 and it was great because not to many people were there yet so we had the mountain to ourselves. An interesting fact about Chimney Rock, Last of the Mohicans filmed a portion of the movie there and about 5 minutes away is a place called Lake Lure and My Fellow Americans and Dirty Dancing was filmed there.
A lot of hiking this weekend and I really loved. Over the weekend Jen and I talked about going on more hiking trips during the summer. This is stuff we could never do in Florida mainly because of the lack of mountains. But I really think moving here has given and Jen and I more things to do together.
Overall a great weekend and tomorrow morning I’m off again traveling. This time it’s for the National Guard, I have a week of Annual Training to do. Pictures posted below, till next time folks.
