Are You Serious?
Although I moved to North Carolina over a year ago, I still read the paper from Port Saint Lucie, FL. Not only am I in complete awe of some of the things I read, but I also wonder what my parents were thinking when we moved there. Granted, Port Saint Lucie was just a one horse town back in the 1980’s, but why did we stay there for so long?
There is one particular story that stands out: “2 Boys Accused of Trying to rob 2 Workers in a Police Station“. Oh yeah, this is the type of people that are being raised in Port Saint Lucie. Gotta love it.
Now there is this one that is making national attention “Teacher in the news after she claims she was non-renewed because of job on bikini charter boat“. Here’s the run down: a teacher has a part time job on a fishing charter that sport topless women on the boat (once in international waters). She claims she keeps her bikini on. She was fired, the school board says, for excessive absences from school. Regardless, if she was or was not fired for this doesn’t matter. She is a teacher and she does have an image to keep up. I don’t have a problem with her having a second job (teachers are underpaid and that is whole other subject) and I could care less if it was on a fishing charter. Maybe this is a sign of me getting older and more mature, but it is a fishing charter that looks for attractive women in bikinis to go topless…I could see the problem with that. Especially if I was a parent with kids who had her as a teacher. It would be like working in a strip club, but holding to the belief that because I don’t strip it’s ok.
I was going through some old posts today and just in case you forgot. What’s worse then ninjas and ninjas on fire….bears with sticks.
Quick Post
This past weekend we went to the Creeper Trail with the youth group from our church. Totally different from the last time we went…mainly because it was between the 50’s and 60’s.
Got word today that the tenants are looking to move out because we decided to put the house back on the market. They want to be out mid December before Wal-Mart goes on a hiring freeze and they’re not able to transfer. So we have three options: option A this guy who is coming to look at the house this weekend buys it, option B the We Buy Ugly Houses people buy it, or option C we foreclose on it.
Thanksgiving is coming up and I am really looking forward to the long weekend. My mother and brother will be leaving Wednesday morning to come up for Thanksgiving and I can’t wait for that. One day we hope to get back down to Florida to see everyone else.
Till next time kids.
I leave you with this scene from The Office. Bears beat Battlestar Galactic…I told you they were dangerous.
Updates
Boy it has been awhile since I’ve updated this beast. What has been happening lately, well I found out bears can climb trees faster then they can run and they can swim. So just by those two facts alone if you see a bear you’re done for. Go get’em tiger.
Last weekend we went to the renaissance festival. Fun time that was…really it was. We saw jousting, a guy with a cup over his you know what, a fire breathing guy, oh and we saw jousting. Overall it was a good day although next time we go I will need to make sure I have a 5 months savings. Once you pay to get in most of everything inside cost money as well…lots of money.
Tuesday was the most important day ever…actually, the most important day after the death and resurrection of Christ. Anyways it mine and Jen’s anniversary. Three years we’ve been married. Hard to believe that it’s been three years all ready, but it has. We weren’t really able to do anything really special like last year because of the ol’ mighty dollar. We did though go out for sushi. I’ve been really craving sushi for awhile and she found a nice little restaurant that has it. Two thumbs up for Jen.
This weekend we are going back to the creeper trail, but with the youth group. It’s been getting into the high 30’s lows 40’s. I can only imagine what it’ll be like in Virginia. My guess cold. Speaking of cold the first morning we woke up with frost we realized we had nothing to scrap it off with and the only thing I could find was an empty water bottle. I would like to say that I melted the plastic bottle down to a solid sheet of plastic and used that to scrap it, but we are under a burn ban. So I used the bottle cap.
I started my introductory to the Gospel of John class three weeks ago. One of the easiest gospels to read, but as the teacher say’s “it’s also the deepest gospel of them all”. This semester has really been kicking my butt though. On top of my lectures, I have my quizzes, my discussion board stuff, and I also need to write two papers. One of them I am working on now is the eight miracles performed by Jesus in the book of John. Did mention I also have my math class lectures. Believe it or not, I had to limit my riding to only weekends.
A couple days ago Jen put the house back on the market with BuyOwner and believe it or not we had a call tonight. He is interested in moving here from Ohio and wants his son to go and look at the house not this weekend, but next weekend. So we shall see where this goes. Sell house sell!
By the way because of this stupid Hollywood strike the new season 24 has been delayed. Stupid writers strike. Did I mention the writers strike is stupid.
so you think you can
Lastnight we went to see So You Think You Can Dance live show at the Bobcat Arena. Yes I said we, anyways we had a very good time lastnight. Watching it on TV is one thing, but seeing it live is a totally different experience. It is amazing what these people can do with there bodies.
Tonight is a very exciting night for me. Transformers the movie came out Tuesday so we’re having some people over to watch it with us. We’re going to BBQ some chicken and just have a good time. BBQ chicken, friends, and Transformers the movie…can it get any better.
I just finished out my Theology 201 class with a 95 and I registered for my Spring 08 classes the first 8 weeks is Theology 202 and Youth Ministry 201 and the second 8 weeks is Theology 250 and Church History 301.
Last week Quentin, the Youth Pastor, gave me permission to do a couple months worth survey lessons of the Old Testament major characters and events. I brought the idea up because the youth group is strongly lacking in Old Testament knowledge and I suggested the idea of doing a survey of it. During lessons they are asking questions of why the Jews did this, why did God do that, who is that. Maybe it’s because they’ve gotten so much preached from the New Testament by old the youth pastor who knows, but I hope the helps them understand a bit more.
I made another video lastnight. I’ve noticed in the last two videos I’ve made they come out blocky and a lower quality then what I uploaded them at. I am hoping to find another site to host them so they will not be so blocky.
One more reason to fear bears
I told you so:
Jen’s Birthday
Yesterday was Jen’s birthday and last night I made dinner reservations at The Melting Pot. I setup a corner booth to avoid traffic, I had roses placed at the table for when we got there, and got a picture of us taken together. The mood of the restaurant was perfect: a great waiter and waitress, dimmed lights, nice music, and a crying velociraptor. Apparently, someone had brought their child with them and at one point he or she sounded like a crying velociraptor. Other then that it was great.
So for those who have never heard of The Melting Pot it’s a fondue restaurant where all of your meals are served in a fondue type of fashion. You choose from a three or four course meal and the difference being the dessert. We had the four-course meal and it was awesome! First for our appetizer we got to pick how our cheese was made and that came with bottomless bread, vegetables, & apples. They then brought us our salads, then the main course. They seriously brought a platter of all sorts of meats: beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, some pasta & lobster tail and we got to cook it all ourselves in a sauce of our choice. In addition to the meats we had vegetables and dipping sauces. Then there was dessert and it was awesome! We picked our own chocolate and that came with bananas, marshmallows, strawberries, pound cake, cheesecake, and Jen’s birthday cheesecake. After all that I was stuffed and seriously could have slept for a couple days. If you’re looking for a place to go for a nice night out I highly recommend going. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s well worth it.
So last night during dinner Jen and I were talking about buying a tent for Labor Day because we are going camping for Labor Day and I realized something. I am deathly afraid of bears. Seriously, they’re just killing machines what purpose do they have? Anyways, I realized this because anytime the subject of camping comes up the first thing I think about is “what about the bears”? I never really had this fear concern when living in Florida, well, because there were no bears where we lived. But now that I live near the mountains and I plan on spending time outdoors I think this is something I need to concern myself with. The only place I think I could have picked this up at would be from watching The National Geographic and The Discovery Channels bear segments where they always show a camper being pulled from the tent. So from the bottom of my heart thank you National Geographic and Discovery Channel.

That’s how they get you by looking all cute and then when you least expect it….whaam!
