Getting Out of Debt
So for about 6 months now, actually probably even longer, we have been working really hard on getting ourselves out of debt. About 2months ago our Sunday school started watching the Dave Ramsey financial freedom series and that helped reinforce our goal of getting out of debt. Ramsey really just tells you how to really make the most out of every penny you have and do it by not borrowing money through loans or credit cards. How you can financially free. If you’ve never heard of this guy I recommend looking him up online, the guy went being worth about 4 millions dollars at the age of 26 to becoming completely broke and in debt. Now he’s reestablished himself financially without borrowing a penny.
Wanting to get out of debt and Dave Ramsey really helped us out (gosh that sounds like an infomercial) but seriously we were able to pay off all of our credit cards (and I personally cut them all up) and we’ve paid off one entire loan. We still have the foreclosure over our heads but lesson learned.
It’s really an amazing feeling. I can say that I have a different view about money now. Just this morning I was sitting at a red light watching all of these brand new cars drive by and all I see is dollar signs and I wonder how many of those people are in over there heads in debt just so they can have that brand new car. Do not get me wrong I’m not against people with new cars I wish I could have a brand new vehicle. I just think that people believe because that they still have checks that there must be money in the bank account. We weren’t like that but Jen and I could have really used this stuff after or even before we got married I think we would have made better decisions in our finical planning.
I find it funny that when we go shopping we’re offered some sort of credit card deal and we tell them that we don’t do credit cards anymore, we paid them all off and cut them up. This usually follows with a great job I hope I can do that one day. I find it funny that they applaud us for paying off our credit card after they just got done offering us one.
Home Sweet Home
Got back from Southbury, CT about 8 PM Friday night. We were originally scheduled for a 6:55 PM flight, but was able to get on standby for a 5:15 flight. Standby was interesting, it was my first time flying standby and I found that people who fly standby are jerks or at least the few that were with me Friday night. Two guys in front me about got in a fight and then the guy behind me pushed me out of the way as I was giving my luggage to the flight attendant. I understand seats are first come first serve, but really pushing. Anyways Southbury was pretty boring, nothing really there. I did see a place called “Chainsaws Unlimtied”, I thought that funny. I get to go back to Southbury next week and then I’m home for a week or a weekend to then fly out to Poughkeepsie, NY. The Poughkeepsie trip should be fun, my boss got us Yankee tickets (can’t wait) so I will finally get to see Yankees stadium before it’s torn down.
Weekend was good. Saturday did some errands and then went to a cook out in the evening with some friends. Sunday was church and then my father in-law and I played some paintball. Anyways that’s all for now folks. Till next time…
Team S.E.A.L.
I’m still in Southbury, at least till tomorrow. Things are going ok here. Not much to really talk about regarding that.
Before I left myself, Jen, and her dad we got together and discussed creating a paintball team for other Christians in the Charlotte, NC area. We wanted to create a team where other Christians that play paintball can get together. You can find out more information about it on the site: http://bseo.wordpress.com/.
Gotta run still in class.
Great Scott!
So Jen has been hinting telling me that she wants a motorcycle, yes a motorcycle. She has been riding a bit with her dad who has a Honda Goldwing Trike (not his) and has really enjoyed it. So ya she wants a motorcycle now, which I’m not totally against just against the money factor of one. Honestly I wouldn’t mind having a motorcycle, if I did have a motorcycle I could abandon my dream of having a Jeep Wrangler. For awhile now I’ve wanted a Jeep just so I can knock off the doors and roof for those nice North Carolina days and maybe do some off-road stuff. But if I get a motorcycle that would be fine, yes we would have to get two because I’m not letting Jen drive me around on. We would of course need to get our motorcycle license and then of course save for the motorcycles. No Harleys for us, maybe later, but for now we’re looking at Honda’s models, so we’ll see happens. Any ideas would be great.
Sunday night I fly out for Connecticut for the week and then I have about a month home before I fly out again for work. This week’s trip is perfect timing because I have finished school at least for the summer and that is a blessing because I needed the time off.
So the day other I told you about Oreo the new cat, well when I got home that day he was still camping out by our slider. I seriously think this cat thinks he belongs to us.
What if one man attempted to tell the story of Back to the Future through music? Back to the Future is really a great movie, a classic I must say, but having it as a musical is even better!
Coffee Anyone
One of the vices I have adopted from my father is coffee. I was not much of a fan of it growing up but as I got older I started drinking it more and now I can’t go a morning without it. Every morning on my way to work I stop at Caribou Coffee (coffee house) and get a medium light roast coffee. Every morning I go in there they always ask what I want and It’s always the same thing. Also every morning they ask me if I want a flavor shot for my coffee or something to eat and it’s always no. This has been the trend for some time now and I thought by now we would have established some sort of relationship. I’m not expecting them to have my coffee on the counter ready for me as I walk in, but that would be nice. Maybe something like “hello Mister who comes in every morning around 7:04 am and get’s a medium light roast coffee with no flavor shots or anything to eat guy will it be the usual today?” That’s all I’m trying to say.
As you all know Jen is the cat lady of the family, we have four cats and if it was up to her we would have another one. Apparently word has gotten out in the neighborhood about Jen. We were not in the new place for a whole week and we had unofficially adopted our neighbor’s outdoors cat, Oreo. Not the cookie Oreo, but that is the name Jen has given him. Oreo likes to taunt our cats by standing at the rear slider while bathing himself and found out this morning he sleeps on our patio chairs. It’s pretty funny watching Luna try to attack him through the slider and the whole time Oreo is sitting there calm and collective. I can see a turf war in the near future.
That’s all for now.
Exhausted
Well it was another drill weekend and things are getting better. I actually stayed busy the whole weekend. Sorry no exciting stories of drill weekend, unless you find putting promotion packets together exciting. I discovered that I did not get awarded the Global War on Terrorism Medal. I should have gotten awarded this while I was in my old unit for my deployments and for some reason I did not. I sent an e-mail out to someone in my Guard unit who should know about it and now I just wait. Part of my commitment of the Guard is that I do two weeks (14 Days) of active duty time and over the weekend I needed to put down my dates I wanted and I realized how stinkin busy I’m going to be in the coming months. I’m going to be travelling at least once a week of every month, there’s one month I’m gone for a week come home for the weekend and then leave again, and then for my AT time with the Guard I’ll be doing in between traveling for work. So ya I’ll be busy.
Saturday night Jen, her dad, and I went to see Iron Man and what a movie that was. Being that I used to collect comic I could not wait for this movie and If you just like movies I highly recommend it and if you love comics, like me, then stay after the credits for a nice little surprise. In my opinion I believe it set bar for comic book movies.
Till next time folks…
Are You Serious?
Although I moved to North Carolina over a year ago, I still read the paper from Port Saint Lucie, FL. Not only am I in complete awe of some of the things I read, but I also wonder what my parents were thinking when we moved there. Granted, Port Saint Lucie was just a one horse town back in the 1980’s, but why did we stay there for so long?
There is one particular story that stands out: “2 Boys Accused of Trying to rob 2 Workers in a Police Station“. Oh yeah, this is the type of people that are being raised in Port Saint Lucie. Gotta love it.
Now there is this one that is making national attention “Teacher in the news after she claims she was non-renewed because of job on bikini charter boat“. Here’s the run down: a teacher has a part time job on a fishing charter that sport topless women on the boat (once in international waters). She claims she keeps her bikini on. She was fired, the school board says, for excessive absences from school. Regardless, if she was or was not fired for this doesn’t matter. She is a teacher and she does have an image to keep up. I don’t have a problem with her having a second job (teachers are underpaid and that is whole other subject) and I could care less if it was on a fishing charter. Maybe this is a sign of me getting older and more mature, but it is a fishing charter that looks for attractive women in bikinis to go topless…I could see the problem with that. Especially if I was a parent with kids who had her as a teacher. It would be like working in a strip club, but holding to the belief that because I don’t strip it’s ok.
I was going through some old posts today and just in case you forgot. What’s worse then ninjas and ninjas on fire….bears with sticks.
